Getting Ready
Taking time aside to reflect is a wonderful gift to yourself and to
God. This reflection period is designed for between 15 minutes to an
hour. Before beginning your reflection time, check to see that you have
a Bible near you, and perhaps a journal. If you need reading glasses,
a pen, a glass of water or even a cup of coffee, gather those before
beginning. You might light a candle or arrange an object or two that
hold special significance close to you and within eyesight. Take a few
moments to quiet y ourself - deliberately letting go of the many distractions
around you. Ask God to quiet you and to help you let go of all that
distracts you from this designated time of reflection and prayer.
When you are ready, begin with the opening prayer, saying the words slowly and meditatively. Try to really speak them from your heart. Slowly read through today's reading. Then take some time to reflect on any or all of the questions presented. You may have only a few moments to sit and reflect or you may have an open-ended period of time. Either is fine. If time and inclination permit, you might journal. When you are finished, say the closing prayer in the same thoughtful way, savoring the words and thanking God for this time of reflection.
